Why it is asked to remove Mcfee Antivirus while installing Norton

I was installing Norton Antivirus and it was prompted to remove Mcfee from the system, I ignored to. Did I do right? I should be able to keep two security guards for system, can’t i? Will it hamper in filtering the viruses if I am having 2 Antiviruses running at the same time?
